Is a total weight of 1.5 carat emerald cut engagement ring enough?

Im looking to buy my girlfriend an engagement ring again as she lost her other, which was only like a 3 Stone, 65 carat total weight ring. She hopes that this 2 ct. ring zales I can not afford. However, I found a total weight of 1.5 ct emerald cut ring for half the cost. The center, 44 ct, 2 Bagetti equal, 46 ct, and it has diamonds size band size for a nice family with a strict budget? 1.5 ct is actually pretty good size. Anything 2 + ct is considered flashy and almost too big.
